KPDNHEP to conduct monitoring operations throughout CMCO period

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) will carry out monitoring operations throughout the country during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period which will be enforced in all states except Kelantan, Pahang and Perlis from tomorrow until Dec 6.

Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi in his statement yesterday said a total of 2,267 enforcement officers and 1,031 Price Monitoring Officers from 72 KPDNHEP branch offices would conduct the operations.

“It is to ensure the supply of basic necessities, especially food is sufficient and can be easily obtained in the market, as well as able to meet the needs continuously,” he said.

Nanta said, overall, there were no incidents of panic buying and inspections on retail premises mounted by the enforcement officers indicated normal buying trends.

“The supply of goods at the wholesaler and manufacturer level is sufficient, stable and able to meet current demands,” he said.

In Kuala Terengganu, KPDNHEP deputy minister, Datuk Rosol Wahid said there was no need for panic buying as all basic food supplies are sufficient during the enforcement period of the CMCO.

He said throughout the various phases of the Movement Control Order (MCO), matters related to the supply of goods and stability of prices for daily consumer items have been well-managed by the ministry.

“Therefore, KPDNHEP will continue to implement specific mechanisms including holding engagement sessions and continuous monitoring of the supply chain at the level of farmers, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers to avoid price manipulation and ensure the stability of goods in the market,” he said during a press conference here yesterday.

He said since the enforcement of the MCO in March up until yesterday, the ministry had conducted a total of 188,014 inspections at business premises including retail (140,168 inspections), wholesale (41,162) and factories (6,684). — Bernama
