KUCHING (Nov 9): The state government has identified potential products such as cheese, specifically mozzarella cheese, to be developed as buffalo-based products, said Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail.

He said a local subsidiary company from Lawas had been identified to lead the development of this cheese manufacturing industry.

He said to ensure the sustainability of the buffalo downstream industry, the Sarawak Veterinary Services Department was planning to increase the buffalo population in the Northern Region of Sarawak.

“One of the initiatives is to develop Maragang Buffalo Station, Lawas as a buffalo research and breeding center under the 12MP.

“The station will also be used as a collection, processing and packaging center for downstream products,” he said in reply to a question from Paulus Gumbang (GPS-Batu Danau).

Dr Abdul Rahman said the state government had actually intended to diversify the production of buffalo-based products.
