SIBU: The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Sarawak is bringing its mobile anti-rabies vaccination programme for dogs to Sibu.

In a press statement yesterday, chairman of Sibu Chinese Community Leaders’ Association, Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau Lee Ming, said a vaccination programme co-organised by DVS with the JKKK of Sg Sadit and Tanjung Maling in Engkilo village will be held at the Methodist Church in the downstream village on Nov 19 (next Thursday) from 9am to 3pm.

He called on owners to bring their dogs to the church for the vaccination programme which is offered free.

He reminded the owners not to miss the chance for the sake of public health and safety. The veterinary team was in Sarikei in June, going from village to village to give similar vaccinations there.

On Nov 20, the veterinary team will move to SJKC Ting Sing at Sungai Bidut to offer similar vaccination service for dogs.

Meanwhile, in view of rabies cases still being detected here, Lau said Sibu Municipal Council would continue to catch stray dogs that roam freely on the streets to curb the transmission of the disease by dogs.

He urged owners to apply for a licence for their dogs and to keep their pets within their house compound and not to let them roam on the streets.
