KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 1,290 new Covid-19 cases and four deaths over 24 hours up to noon yesterday, said Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Also, during the same period, 878 patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recovered cases to 38,132 or 73.8 per cent of the total number of 51,680 cases, he said in a statement.

He said Sabah recorded the highest daily number of positive cases at 660 followed by Selangor at 407.

“A high number of 250 reported cases in Sabah stems from clusters associated with the Temporary Detention Centre, lockups and prisons.

“The rise in the number of cases in Selangor is from the Teratai Cluster (245 cases) and the new Kapas BJ Cluster (55 cases). These two clusters are associated with workplaces comprising non-citizens,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced the detection of four new clusters – Kapas BJ in Selangor; Prestij in Kuala Lumpur; Bah Bercham in Perak and Kaimbang in Johor – taking the number of active clusters being monitored to 165.

“Fifty-four of these clusters reported a rise in the number of cases, with a large number of increases in the Teratai Cluster (245 cases); Sandakan Prison Cluster (215) and Kapas BJ Cluster (55),” he said.

He also said that six clusters were declared ended yesterday, namely Umboo, Bah Mutiara, Khazanah, Jalan Pantai, Bah Bangat and Bah Kasturi, bringing the number of clusters declared ended to 154. – Bernama
