KUCHING: Contractors appointed to deliver rural transformation programme (RTP) projects are reminded to shape up or risk being shipped out if they fail to deliver according to the schedule.

Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap said since these are people’s projects and involve a lot of money, it is important for contractors to ensure the projects are properly implemented, and on time.

He added there would be frustration and dissatisfaction from those concerned if the contractors failed to deliver in time.

“As the people’s elected representatives, we will be on the receiving end of their frustration and anger.

“So my advice is please shape up or ship out.

The government may resort to further action of blacklisting the errant ones,” he said when attending a briefing on the RTP implementation for Bukit Saban and Layar constituencies at Betong Resident’s office yesterday.

A political secretary to the chief minister Dr Richard Rapu represented Bukit Saban assemblyman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah at the function.

Uggah, who is Deputy Chief Minister, is on a month sick leave.

Rentap also lamented that in some cases, there were contractors who refused to listen to suggestions from the people over the implementation.

“I hope both sides are willing to compromise. If there are issues please bring them up to us or the Resident and District’s office.”

At the function, Rentap also presented grants totalling RM40,000 to organisations from four government departments here.

Betong Resident Friday Belik and his deputy Abang Mohamad Abang Trukey were among those present.
