Competition encourages Sarawak startup entrepreneurs to come up with creative products

SIBU: The Sarawak Startup Entrepreneur’s Competition 2020 serves as a platform for Sarawakian entrepreneurs to come up with creative and outstanding products.

According to joint organiser PLUX Incubation Hub, the two-day preliminary round will kick off this Dec 12, while the semi-finals will run from Dec 17 to 20 – both conducted via online.

The finale will be staged on Jan 8 next year.

The competition will be conducted in Mandarin, and is open to all Mandarin-speaking Sarawakian startup entrepreneurs whose businesses are not more than five years old, possess own products or services, with their own business models.

The other co-hosts of the competition are the Startup Entrepreneur Association Sarawak, and Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC).

“It is fully supported by Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industry Terminal and Entrepreneur Development, (Minister for Local Government and Housing) Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, (Minister of Transport) Datuk Lee Kim Shin and (Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Arts) Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, as well as KTS Group, Dr Hii Sui Cheng and Sibu Chinese Chamber Young Entrepreneurs Committee (YEC),” said PLUX Incubation Hub in a statement yesterday.

It also pointed out that the Covid-19 pandemic had bought upon a huge impact to the global employment market.

“Entrepreneurship has become a new way out to survive as long as you have the ideas, creativity and motivation.

“The purpose of launching the Sarawak Startup Entrepreneur’s Competition is to encourage youths to be involved in entrepreneurship and at the same time, it gathers entrepreneurs from different fields, who are set to innovate the entrepreneurial styles and also the power of investment,” it added.

The hub also pointed out that the candidates would not only increase their business exposure through the activities run in conjunction with the competition, but they would also gain opportunities to exchange ideas with their peers from all over Sarawak and strengthen their business networking further.

“Furthermore, 10 experts will deliver 10 free live-streaming entrepreneurship courses to the public before this competition commences.

“The themes are ‘The Secret of Getting Referrals and Unfamiliar Business Recommendations’; ‘New Normality, New Business Digitalised Strategy’; ‘Complete Guide to 5G Visual Marketing’; ‘Live Broadcast Effective Method’; ‘Greet Recovery After Epidemic Objectively’; ‘Build Up a Profitable Influencer Live Broadcast’; ‘Super Close Deal Technique’; ‘A New Start-Up Entrepreneur Essential Basic Skills’; ‘The Entrepreneur Generation After Epidemic’; and ‘From Sibu to Kuala Lumpur – A Story of the Top IT Company Founder’,” it added.
