According to head of Zone 6 Fire and Rescue Department, Supt Law Poh Kiong, three personnel from Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station led by Senior Fire Officer II Luang Ganggang went to several longhouses in Beluru District to monitor the flood waters at Rh Janggu, Rh Selutan and SK Seputi at Bok, Bakong, yesterday.

Beluru District officer Alfred Geling and several personnel from Civil Defence Force (APM) also came along.

“The water level is receding in several areas but in the majority of areas the water level is about one foot above the roads.

“The roads are however still passable to most vehicles.” said Law, adding that no evacuation was required so far.

Meanwhile, four longhouses in Long Bemang, the longest longhouses in upper Baram, were inundated up to more than one foot of flood waters yesterday following torrential rain since 2am the previous day.

The Haleluyah, Hosana, Maranata and Calvary blocks situated on low-lying areas were flooded by 1.2 foot, 1 foot, 0.8 foot, and 0.6 foot of water respectively, affecting more than 600 residents from 100 households, said Law.

Long Bemang volunteer firefighting team also reported that the water level had risen slightly in their longhouses following the incessant downpour.
