MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) has confirmed that two Facebook accounts using the name and logo of MCC without permission and prior consent by the council, are fake.

Mayor Adam Yii, in a statement after chairing MCC’s full council meeting yesterday, said the accounts – Miri City Council and Miri City Council Complain Community – were not opened under the authorisation of the city council.

“Therefore, the said accounts are deemed as fake accounts and as such MCC would not take any responsibility for whatever comments and undertakings posted therein,” he said.

However, Yii said MCC welcomes constructive views and comments from the public.

“We value such views and comments for our service improvements, which are conveyed through official channels – Council Service Hotline (085-424111); MCC Command Centre (085-424600); Sarawak Smart City App; Talikhidmat (082-555999); Talikhidmat Mobile App, among others.”

On a separate matter relating to the rabies situation in Sibu, Yii said MCC’s rabies outbreak control unit will toughen up its preventive measures by increasing its patrols to round up stray dogs roaming in public places, especially residential areas and busy streets.

“The city council would also like to remind owners of pet dogs to obtain council licences for their pets and should not at anytime let go of their pet dogs to public places as this will endanger the lives of their pets who may be infected by those disease-carrying stray dogs.

“In addition to this, pet owners should also bring their animals for anti-rabies vaccination,” said Yii, urging dog owners to be alert and give full cooperation to MCC to ensure the rabies outbreak is under constant control.
