Police nab four men for suspected involvement in illegal cockfighting

BAU: Four men aged between 24 and 38 years were arrested by the police for suspected involvement in illegal cockfighting at an open space behind a house at Jalan Kampung Sungai Pinang, Siniawan, Bau on Sunday.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said they were nabbed during a raid on the premises carried out by the district’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) at around 2pm.

“During the raid, police also found one live and one dead cockerel at the scene,” said Poge in a statement yesterday.

He added that police also seized five cockspurs and some amount of cash.

Poge said the suspects from Bau and Kuching did not have any past criminal record.

All of the suspects were arrested under Section 3(1) of Cruelty to Animals (Prevention) Ordinance 1962 and if convicted they could be fined RM1,000 each or three months’ imprisonment.
