Man nabbed on suspicion of attacking wife

The suspect being apprehended by police at the carpark of an apartment in Taman Sri Malihah.

KUCHING: Padawan police arrested a 31-year-old man, who is suspected of assaulting and threatening his 32-year-old wife and their child at around 3.30pm on Thursday.

Padawan District police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect was apprehended at Taman Sri Malihah around 4.30pm on Friday.

“It is said that the suspect slapped, punched and kicked his wife during a heated argument,” said Aidil in a statement yesterday.

According to the victim, her husband had blamed her for a housing loan that was rejected
by the bank, and he had also threatened to kill her and their child.

“During interrogation, the suspect admitted that he had an argument with his wife and had spoken hurtful words to her,” said Aidil.

The case would be investigated under Section 323 and Section 506 of the Penal Code.

A background check revealed that the suspect had a past criminal record under Section 6(1) of Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 – for possessing a dangerous weapon in public.
