BAU: The launching of a modern monument pole will be the highlight of Bau Bicentennial Celebration at Tasik Biru here on Dec 31.

According to Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will unveil the memorial pole which represents freedom and the harmonious co-existence of the three major races – the Bidayuhs, Malay and Chinese in the gold mining town of Bau.

“There will be exhibition booths set up by NGOs such as the Hua Gong, Sehati Research Institute and Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) as well as the Public Works Department (JKR) and Bau District Office,” he said in a press conference after chairing the second coordination committee meeting for the celebration yesterday.

He added that DBNA will showcase the contributions made by the Bidayuh community and what was done to move the community forward. The roles played by the Chinese and Malay communities towards building a greater Bau will also be at the exhibition.

“This celebration will serve as a landmark and the first step towards the transformation of Bau and our communities here,” he added.

The main event will be limited to 600 invited guests though the venue will be open to the public with adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
