Trading thrives at Tellian Floating Market.

MUKAH: The newly-opened Tellian Floating Market will be an attraction for visitors.

According to Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo, the market serves as a centre for the local economy with agriculture and jungle products, as well as local fishes.

He made these remarks at the launch of market at Kampung Tellian yesterday.

The market’s strategic location in the middle of other villages in Tellian area was also highlighted.

Other villages could also be connected via Tellian River, as well as roads to facilitate business activities in the area for traders and buyers later.

The assemblyman added that the floating market could also be expanded and created in other areas across the Tellian constituency such as Kampung Petanak, Kampung Judan and Kampung Penat.

“Although this is not an easy thing, something must be done to be a catalyst for economic growth not only in Mukah, but in Sarawak as a whole, especially during the Covid-19 recovery phase,” he said.

The Tellian Floating Market is one of the initiatives under the ‘Mukah Xtra’ programme.

Other initiatives include ‘XtraBudaya’, ‘XtraKreatif’, ‘XtraBelia’, ‘XtraEkonomi’, ‘XtraTempatan’ and ‘XtraKeselamatan’.

Also present at the launch ceremony was acting Mukah District officer Peleadzman Ahip.
