Foreign national arrested for allegedly possessing syabu

BINTULU (Jan 4): Police arrested a foreign national for allegedly possessing 5.3 grammes of syabu worth about RM800 yesterday.

According to Bintulu police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili, the suspect was arrested by a team of policemen from Bintulu District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division.

Zulkipli said the 32-year-old man, who is a worker at an oil palm plantation here, was detained next to a premises at Jalan Sommerville at around 3.15pm.

During an inspection conducted on the suspect, he said police found six transparent straw tubes containing crystal-like substance believed to be Methamphetamine.

“Urine test found that the suspect was positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine,” Zulkipli added.

He said the case will be investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries an imprisonment not less than two years and not more than five years, and whipping not less than three and not more than nine strokes.

For offence under Section 15 (1) (a) of the same act, the suspect could be fined not more than RM5,000 or not more than two years in jail and to be placed under probation for two years, upon conviction.
