Johnny appointed state under-21 head coach

KOTA KINABALU: Johnny Dominicus has been named as the head coach of the state under-21 squad in preparation for the President Cup challenge this season.

Sabah Football Association (Safa) deputy president Datuk Juil Nuatim announced the appointment here today where he also confirmed Roslan Wasli would be the head coach of the Youth Cup (U-19) squad.

With that, Roslan will succeed Johnny as the state under-19 chief trainer while the latter will return for another stint as head coach of the state back-up squad.

Adzrien Harun and Sudirman Garamah have been appointed as assistant coaches for the state under-21 and under-19 squad respectively.

Juil, who along with Safa assistant secretary general Azman Mastar named as directors of the two junior squad, said the coaches will decide on the players while waiting for the greenlight from the state government to conduct centralised training.

“We have adequate time to make preparation since the President Cup and Youth Cup competitions will only start on June 2.

“However, we need to select the players the sooner the better so that we can start making thorough preparation for the new season,” said Juil.

Meanwhile, the assistant team managers for the junior teams too were made namely Ruhaizul Ezan Rubin and Burhanuddin Yahya for the under-21 squad.

Lokman Sunggim, on the other hand, will be assistant team manager of the under-19 squad.

The appointment followed the recent announcement by Safa acting president Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin in naming Ahmad Syuaib Nasir and Mohd Khairul Nizaem as the managers of the President Cup and Youth Cup sides respectively.

Bung Moktar, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, also announced recently of the return of Indonesian coach Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto as the head coach of Sabah FC.

Coach Burhan Ajui will be assisting Kurniawan managing the state senior football squad in preparation for the Super League which is expected to kick-off at the end of February.

Khairul Firdaus is named the chief executive officer (CEO) of Sabah FC while Marzuki Nasir will be the team manager.
