SFWI Kapit reaches out to widower who lost family in Triso tragedy

KAPIT: The local branch of Sarawak Federation of Women Institutes (SFWI) presented some donations to Mohamad Hamzah Razali, 43, who lost his family in the Triso ferry point accident in Sebuyau recently.

SFWI Kapit chief Noraini Abdullah, who is also head of the federation’s sub-branch in Kampung Baru here, handed over the contributions to Kampung Bistari headman Abang Muhamad Ismail, who represented Mohamad Hamzah at the simple ceremony held at Bletih State Complex here late Friday afternoon.

Earlier, a ‘tahlil’ (recitation of words of prayers) session, led by Imam (leader of local Muslim congregation) Sahril Ramli, was conducted at the venue in remembrance of the victims of the tragedy.

Local community leaders Temenggong Wasli Nor, Pemanca Abang Hamzah Abang Bolhassan and Ketua Kaum Razali Abdullah were among those attending.

Mohamad Hamzah’s wife Siti Aishah Abdullah, 36, were among nine people who were killed after the pick-up truck that they were in fell off the ferry ramp and plunged into Batang (River) Lupar on Jan 1.

Also perished were the couple’s five children, aged between four months and 16; as well as Mohamad Hamzah’s sister-in-law Lorna Ting, 33, and her two young sons – aged 12 and seven.

Both Siti Aishah and Lorna hailed from Kapit.
