SIBU: The putting up of special tents by the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) at Sibu Indoor Stadium as a quarantine centre is as an initial preparation to face the increase in Covid-19 cases in Sibu.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Dr Annuar Rapa’ee when contacted yesterday said the quarantine centre will only be used if there is an urgent need.

“If possible, we do our best not to use it. This is just a preliminary preparation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the installation of the Nadma special tents was done by members of the Civil Defence Force.

Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research, through a post on his Facebook page confirmed that the quarantine centre has not been used.

Earlier, he also said that food assistance for 2,059 people affected by movement restriction in Pasai Siong had started to be sent Saturday afternoon.

The Sibu Disaster Management Committee on Saturday announced that a total of 37 individuals in Rumah Langi were confirmed positive for Covid-19.

They were close contacts of a woman who returned from Johor Bahru (Case 1175) on Dec 29 last year and tested positive for the coronavirus.
