KUCHING: The police checked some 60 individuals at roadblock along the BatuKitang-Bau road from 12.01am until 8am yesterday.
ASP Abdul WadiAbd Rani from Padawan District police headquarters(IPD Padawan) said out of the total, 10 were asked to turn back as they had no valid reasons to enter Kuching and Padawan districts.

“Anyone who has no valid purpose, we will ask them to turn back,” he said when met at the site of the roadblock along Jalan Batu Kitang-Bau here, yesterday.
He added, police personnel from IPD Padawan stationed at strategic stretches along the road are the second line of inspection after the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) in dealing with illegal immigrants attempting to enter Kuching and Padawan districts.

Abdul Wahab said 20 police personnel and eight People’s volunteer Corps (Rela) are deployed to man 24-hour road block .
“Under IPD Padawan there are eight shifts in a day involving 20 police personnel and eight Rela personnel until the end of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO),” he said.
He added the incessant rain during this rainy season posed a big challenge for the police force as half of them are deployed to monitor and assess the flood situations .
Recently, the Sarawak Commissioner of Police Datuk Aidi Ismail said that the police had set-up 10 road blocks in Kuching, Sibu and Miri zones which started at 12.01am on Wednesday.
This came after the State Disaster Management Committee implemented CMCO in these three zones.
In Kuching zone, there will be a roadblock at every district, namely Kuching, Padawan, Kota Samarahan, Bau and Lundu, while in Sibu, there will be four road blocks including one in Sarikei and there will be only one in Miri.
