MIRI: Verbal warnings have been given to hawkers and business operators who do not comply with the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP), says Mayor Adam Yii on his third day of CMCO inspection yesterday.

Yii, who inspected coffee shops at Boulevard Commercial Centre and Krokop 10 Market, said while most hawkers and coffee shop operators were complying with the SOP, there were several who failed to do so.

“From observation, the number of people who dine-in at eateries is fairly less than usual, the majority of them prefer takeaways. However our concern are the business operators and hawkers who do not wear face masks perhaps due to reasons best known to them. But in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases here, we advise them to comply,” said Yii.

Miri Division, now a Red Zone, is under conditional movement control order (CMCO) from Jan 13 until 26, due to the surge of Covid-19 cases from clusters such as Bah Sayap, Pasai and Jelita.

Facilities under Miri City Council (MCC) are temporarily closed to the public, while public gatherings must be avoided.
