S’wak to host Sports Science e-Confab

KUCHING: The Institute of Teacher Education Rajang campus and Sarawak Sports Psychology Association are organising the International e-Conference on Sports Science (IECSS) from Mar 30 to 31.

The virtual conference, under the theme ‘Developing sustainable Sports Science and Physical Education’, is set to play a role in helping Sarawak realise the vision of a sports powerhouse in the country.

Institute of Teacher Education Rajang campus director Dr Lambat Lindong, who is chairman of the organising comitttee, has thanked Sarikei MP Wong Ling Biu for his sponsorship of RM50,000 and support in the development of sports.

The conference will be officiated by Meradong state assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing and Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia rector Dr Rusmini Ku Ahmad.

Lambat said IECSS aims to serve as a platform to bridge the knowledge gap on theory and practice as well as to inculcate a research culture among sports practitioners.

It could also serve as a repository of resource sharing and to promote networking among members of sports organizations, both local and abroad.

The five internationally renowned keynote speakers are Prof Dr Michael Chia (National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore), Prof Dr Yu-Kai Chang (National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan), Prof Dr Frank Lu (Chinese Culture University, Taiwan), Prof Dr Giyasettin Demirhan (Hacettepe University, Turkey) and Assoc Prof Dr Dané Coetzee (North-West University’s Potchefstroom Campus, South Africa).

The 13 plenary speakers are Dr Chung Ho Jin and Asst Prof Dr Komar John (National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore); Assoc Prof Dr Garry Kuan, Assoc Prof Dr Hairul Anuar Hashim and Dr Kueh Yee Cheng (Universiti Sains Malaysia), Assoc Prof Dr Lim Boon Hui, Dr Vincent Teo and Dr Victor S Selvanayagam (University Malaya); Assoc Prof Dr Wee Eng Hoe (TAR University College); Dr Thariq Khan (Sultan Idris Education University); Mr Philip Liew (National Sports Institute of Malaysia); Dr Ong Kong Swee (Sarawak Sports Corporation) and Dr Chin Ngien Siong (Institute of Teacher Education Batu Lintang campus).

Meanwhile, Institute of Teacher Education Rajang campus head of Physical Education and Health Department and coordinator Ling Chung Yeo extended his gratitude to Dr Chin Ngien Siong, Chai Poh Fatt of the Sarawak Sports Psychology Association and Sarawak Convention Bureau for their collaboration and support in organising the event.

The conference is free for all participants. For those who wish to participate as individual presenter and/or group presenter, a minimal fee per paper of RM50 is required for a local presenter and USD$15 for an international presenter.

Both oral and poster presentations can either be in English or Malay.

All accepted papers will be published in e-Proceeding with e-ISSN. Registration and payment will close on the 22 Feb 2021.
