BINTULU: Bintulu member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing emphasised the need to carry out mass Covid-19 screening exercise when positive cases are detected in an area.
He said the authorities could only prevent further spread of the Covid-19 infection in the particular community with mass testing.
Tiong praised the swift action taken by the authorities in setting up roadblocks which closed off the main entrance to a longhouse at Mile 18 Jalan Bintulu-Miri, in an effort to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission in Bintulu.
“I believe that if the Bintulu Health Office did not conduct a large-scale Covid-19 screening exercise last week, most likely the virus would be spreading everywhere,” he said.
He urged the public, especially those who attended the funeral at a longhouse in Pasai Siong, Sibu, including those from Sibu and working in Bintulu, to undergo Covid-19 swab test immediately.
He also called on those who had visited risky areas to come forward for swab test. Tiong raised his concern because the positive cases recorded in Bintulu has been confirmed to be from the Pasai cluster.
“No matter if you have symptoms or not, you must undergo a screening test as soon as possible,” said Tiong during a press conference yesterday.
He also advised the public not to be selfish by ignoring the SOP set by Sarawak Disaster Management Comittee.
