Teachers and students of SMK Merbau return to school for the start of this year’s session.

MIRI: Face-to-face school sessions for students sitting for SPM at SMK Merbau started smoothly yesterday.

Its principal Jumari Hashim said the school was all prepared in terms of standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the Education Ministry.

“A total of 501 SPM candidates have returned to school today (yesterday) and most are excited and happy to continue with the face-to-face session in a proper classroom setting,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He added that all teachers were ready to handle their respective ‘station’ for the school reopening yesterday.

Classes which commenced yesterday only involved students sitting for SPM, SVM, SKM, STPM, STAM and DMV examination for years 2020 and 2021 as well as other equivalent examinations.

Meanwhile, students coming to school yesterday were seen adhering to the SOPs by checking their temperature and washing their hands when entering the school compound.

Teachers were also seen standing at the gate to ensure all students follow the SOP.

“Students already know about the SOP that they need to follow when coming to school, but we still need to ensure that they practise them throughout their time in school,” said Jumari.

As part of the SOP, outsiders including members of the media were not allowed to enter the school compound.

The 2020 SPM examination has been postponed to February this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Students wash their hands with soap when they enter the school compound.
