MIRI: The floodwater levels at two schools in Baram had begun to recede yesterday as the skies cleared up.

According to Baram Education Office, SK Long Panai and SMK Tutoh Apoh had been benefitting from the sunny weather, and the flood situation in these areas remained under control.

However during an observation yesterday, it was found that several areas at SK Long Panai, which houses
30 pupils, were still inundated – the highest level was about three feet (approximately 1m).

Photo shows a section of the flood-hit areas at SMK Tutoh Apoh, which houses 43 Form 5 students preparing for their SPM examinations.

Meanwhile, the floodwater level at SMK Tutoh Apoh measured over two feet (0.6m).

The floods hit the secondary school’s computer lab, the teacher’s flat and the compound around the generator-set storehouse.

SMK Tutoh Apoh is now accommodating 43 Form 5 students preparing for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations.

Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said there had been no evacuation exercise as the floodwater level had receded at affected areas around both schools.
