MIRI: Most of the 74 Covid-19 positive cases recorded in Beluru on Thursday were from just one longhouse.

In revealing this, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Datu Dr Penguang Manggil said the sudden spike in cases in the district was anticipated due to the first case related to the Pasai Cluster in Sibu.

“This was expected from the swab test results on the 10th day and 70 per cent of this longhouse’s residents were found positive,” he said when contacted yesterday.

“Thank you to MoH (Ministry of Health) Miri for the job well done in tracing or detecting the positive cases. Most of the total number of cases in Beluru District are from the lockdown area of Rumah Emah, Sungai Liam.”

Penguang said the longhouse was immediately put under lockdown once the case was detected.

He advised the public to minimise their movements during Chinese New Year next weekend and to remain in their respective villages or longhouses, as well as to keep outsiders away to minimise the spread of Covid-19.

“I also urge the people of Marudi to be more vigilant and strictly adhere to the SOPs to maintain Marudi as one of the few remaining green districts in Sarawak,” he added.

On Thursday, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reported 74 Covid-19 positive cases in Beluru – 55 cases involved the Pasai Cluster, 18 from active contact tracing, and one from the Rakut Cluster.
