KUCHING: Three local chapters of Junior Chamber International (JCI) jointly held a blood donation drive at Dewan Masyarakat MBKS here yesterday.

Volunteers from JCI Kuching, JCI Padawan and JCI Damai coordinated the programme, which was supported by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and the blood bank of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

The drive was run as JCI’s response to the call by the blood bank for more donors to come and help it replenish its stock, especially during this festive season amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Yesterday, 148 people registered for the drive, but only 133 were able to donate.

“The successful donors have contributed a pint each.

“We see our contribution today as a way for us to help the blood bank ensure that it would have sufficient supply for the people in need. Although still under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), we believe that we can still contribute and at the same time, remain compliant with the standard operating procedures (SOP), under the guidance of the personnel from SGH.

“Plus, it is Valentine’s Day today (yesterday) and this is our expression of love to the people in need,” said JCI Kuching, JCI Padawan and JCI Damai respective presidents Siew Young Ming, Rachael Justin and Chin Vu Sing in a joint statement, released in connection with yesterday’s programme.

Every successful donor also received goodies from several local companies who had come in as sponsors for the donation drive.
