SIBU: A total of 60 police personnel of all ranks from Sibu Jaya police station underwent Covid-19 swab tests at Sibu Jaya health clinic yesterday.

Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the tests were conducted in sessions in the morning and afternoon.

“The tests held at the compound of the clinic were conducted smoothly,” he said.

A total of 96 police personnel from Sungai Merah police station underwent the swab tests on Monday (Feb 22) at the compound of the Sungei Merah police station after two traffic policemen tested positive for Covid-19.

Following that incident, Stanley ordered all police personnel from the Sibu Jaya, Lanang, and Central police stations to undergo swab tests.

Sarawak deputy police commissioner Datuk Fisol Salleh also visited Sibu Jaya yesterday to monitor the roadblock mounted at the Sibu Jaya flats and the Townvilla area, which came under an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) on Feb 12.

The EMCO has since been extended to March 4 to allow the authorities to conduct a second round of swab tests on the residents.

As at Monday, 387 cases had been detected at the flats, while Townvilla recorded 50 cases.

There are 20 blocks of flats in Sibu Jaya, each housing 80 units.
