SARIKEI: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sarikei recently seized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks worth RM16,750.00 from errant traders here. Sarikei enforcement chief Mohamad Zawawi said the cases involved a wholesaler and a retailer.

Both traders are expected to be charged for an offence under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, which provides for a fine of up to RM1 million, up to three years imprisonment, or both, he said.

Since Feb 18, the ministry’s enforcement team had inspected 21 LPG premises comprising six wholesalers and 15 retailers here.

Mohamad said the routine inspections were to ensure the wholesale and retail price of LPG did not breach the ceiling price fixed under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

“We want to ensure LPG traders have valid licences, comply with terms and conditions stipulated in their licences, and to display price tags including delivery charges,” he added.
