SIBU (March 2): Targeted lockdown on Sibujaya flats that are still registering new Covid-19 cases is among the methods that have been proposed by the authorities in Sibu to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), said Sibu Divisional Health Officer Dr Teh Jo Hun.

Dr Teh said that this method would be their next course of action if SDMC approved their proposal to replace the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) imposed on the flats and housing at Townvilla area in Sibujaya.

The EMCO on the flats and Townvilla housing area is expected to end on March 4.

Dr Teh said that the lockdown area was still registering new Covid-19 cases even after second round swab tests conducted on the residents.

“We want to refine our next action for the flat residents. The proposal have been submitted to SDMC and the result will be known before the expiry of EMCO on March 4,” he told reporters when met at the flats area today.

Dr Teh together with Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, his deputy Superintendent Collin Babat, Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division head DSP Ariffin Bahar, Sibujaya police station head Inspector Rodua Tayo and representatives from the army, Sibu Resident Office, Housing Development Corporation and Sibu Rural District Council visited the flats today as part of the preparation before the new announcement from SDMC on the EMCO at the affected area.

He also disclosed that nearly 100 per cent of the residents at the lockdown area had undergone their second swab test.

“There are one or two of them who resisted at first but eventually with assistance from the police, they agreed to go for their second swab test,” he said.

Stanley who also spoke advised the residents in lockdown areas to continue to comply with the regulations.

“This is important so we can stop Covid-19 infection,” he said.

Meanwhile, those affected by the lockdown in Sibujaya have appealed to the authorities not to extend the EMCO.

They said many of the residents at the flat area were daily paid workers with heavy commitment.

Some even feared that they might lost their job if the restrictions is extended.

Sibujaya recorded a total of 777 cumulative cases as of yesterday. Out of 777 cases, 585 cases were from the flats and Townvilla area.
