MIRI: Nine new mini recreational parks will be built at various residential areas in Senadin state constituency this year.

In announcing this, Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said Miri City Council (MCC) would be the implementing agency of the projects, funded under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

“Last year, a total of six mini recreational parks had been built in my constituency. For this year, another nine new mini recreational parks would be implemented at various residential areas in Senadin,” he told reporters after visiting three mini recreational park project sites in his constituency yesterday.

Lee said the main objective of providing such facilities at the residential areas was to encourage the residents to live a healthy lifestyle.

He added that with these mini parks, the children would have proper and safe places for them to conduct recreational activities.

He also said besides being used for exercise, the parks could also serve as means to enhance the existing spirit of neighbourliness among the communities living in these residential areas.

“Besides basic facilities such as playgrounds and jogging tracks, we are going to upgrade the facilities in the mini parks with outdoor fitness equipment.

“This is one way to encourage the people to fully utilise these mini recreational parks for a healthy lifestyle.”

At the same time, Lee also reminded MCC on the need for continuous and regular maintenance of these mini recreational parks.

Earlier, the minister inspected the RM100,000 mini recreational park at Lorong Desa Senadin 2D, which had just reached completion and was funded under last year’s RTP allocation.

He also visited two other mini recreational parks in Senadin – the one at Promin Jaya 2 and the other at Jalan Marigold.

He said for these two, additional funds would be given to provide outdoor fitness equipment.

Joining Lee in the site visits were councillors and local community leaders, as well as members of MCC’s Landscaping Section.
