KUCHING (May 10): The police are confident of identifying the individuals who used fake names and Facebook accounts to slander Sarawak deputy police commissioner Datuk Fisol Salleh.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Lukas Aket said this follows a recent viral article on Facebook alleging Fisol was the main protector of those involved in gambling, smuggling, and gangsterism in Sarawak.

Lukas said the police would use various methods in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to detect the individuals.

According to him, an investigation into some of issues alleged in the post found them to be untrue and purely defamatory.

“It is found that it was a form of slander and accusation against him aimed at tarnishing the image and reputation of Fisol as Sarawak deputy commissioner of police,” Lukas told a press conference.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code (Defamation) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.

He advised the public not to use social media as a platform to spread anything that is obscene, defamatory, untrue, or accusatory.
