KOTA KINABALU (May 11): Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal has expressed his willingness to work with Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).

The former chief minister said he would love to work with a local party such as PBS as he is aware of the party’s stance.

“I’d love to work with PBS. If you ask me honestly, it’s a local party. I know the sentiments. I know my colleague Max (PBS president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili). I know their spirit, their desire, and their struggle,” he said during an online press conference today.

“Of course we have to form an alliance with the other national parties as well because we are in one nation. We cannot pretend that we can do this on our own. We have to form an alliance.”

When asked whether PBS would be open to a partnership with Warisan, Shafie said the decision is entirely up to them.

“Well, it’s up to them. I’m just talking about Sabah’s interests and its people. If they are against, it’s okay, no problem,” said the Semporna MP.

However, he clarified that he has not been in contact with Maximus.

On rumours of Warisan working with Umno, Shafie said it is more important for Warisan to “build its own house first”.

During a recent online forum, Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and Warisan deputy president Datuk Darell Leiking had hinted of a possibility of Umno and Warisan joining forces in the future.
