KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal has expressed his willingness to work with Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).

The former chief minister said that he would love to work with a local party such as PBS and he is aware of the party’s sentiments.

“I’d love to work with PBS, if you ask me honestly…it’s a local party.

“I know the sentiments. I know my colleague, Max (PBS president Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili). I know their spirit, their desire and their struggle,” he said in an online press conference on Tuesday.

“Of course, we have to form an alliance with the other national parties as well because we are in one nation. We cannot pretend that we can do this on our own. We have to form an alliance,” added Shafie.

When asked whether PBS would be open to the partnership, Shafie said that the decision is entirely up to them.

“Well, it’s up to them. I’m just talking about Sabah’s interest and its people. If they are against, it’s ok, no problem,” said the Semporna MP.

He, however, clarified that he has not been in contact with Maximus.

When asked about the rumours of Warisan working with Umno, Shafie said that it is more important for Warisan to ‘build its own house first’.

During a recent online forum, Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and Warisan deputy president Datuk Darell Leiking had hinted the possibility of Umno and Warisan joining forces in the future.
