KUCHING ( May 13): Local Government and Housing Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian has held a virtual meeting yesterday with various organisations here in a bid to formulate an economic recovery plan for the state following the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was attended by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting, Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations president Dato Richard Wee, Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak president Dato Tan Jit Kee, and representatives of hawkers.

A statement issued by Sarawak United People’s Party, where Dr Sim is president, said the parties involved in the meeting were called in because they had important roles in developing the economic sector.

“We wanted to hold a meeting with these people because they can discuss and contribute constructive suggestion which will be used to help draw up economic development plans or a stimulus package.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has changed everything and made everyone adopt new norms of living while industrial and commercial enterprises also have to face new challenges during the time of the pandemic,” the statement said.
