KUCHING (May 14): A 42-year old bistro owner at Jalan Song was slapped with a compound by the police after three patrons were found to be inside the premise around 9pm last night.

Kuching district police acting chief Supt Merbin Lisa in a statement said the four patrons including a female, aged between 23 and 50 years-old, were also issued a compound each.

“All five of the individuals were found to be breaching the standard operating procedures (SOP) under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) which disallows dine-ins during this period,” said Merbin.

The Sarawak National Security Council (NSC) on May 11 issued an SOP prohibiting dine-ins at restaurants, food outlets, bistros, cafes, food and beverage stalls.

Merbin added that checks were carried out in the area by the district’s Criminal Investigations Department.

All five received their compounds at the Kuching district police headquarters.

“I would like to advise business owners to adhere to the SOP which were issued by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to avoid being compounded,” he said.

Besides business owners, Merbin said the public should also take up responsibility to follow the SOP to break the infection chain of the Covid-19 virus.

Earlier yesterday, Merbin also visited the frontline personnel under the Kuching District Police Headquarters who were on duty during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Besides giving them words of encouragement, he also gave them some Hari Raya ‘kueh muih’ as a celebration treat.
