MIRI (May 14): Covid-19 vaccination centres here will re-open on May 17 to administer the second dose of vaccine, said Miri Divisional DIsaster Management Committee minister-in-charge Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

He said the centre was closed after the first batch of recipients under the second phase of the national Covid-19 immunisation programme roll out here were vaccinated from April 23.

“The centre will resume administering the second dose from May 17 onwards for this batch,“ he said.

Lee said the centre at Eastwood Valley will remain open even on public holidays and weekends if the inoculation exercise is in progress.

He said this in response to Miri MP Dr Micheal Teo Yu Keng, who questioned the closing of vaccination centres during Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive holidays and weekends, which compromised the war against Covid-19 in the country.

Teo had also suggested that the authorities allow private hospitals to conduct walk-in vaccinations irrespective of the hour of the day to speed up the pace of attaining herd immunity against Covid-19.

On the rollout of the national vaccination programme, Teo said it was slower even than neighbouring Indonesia.

“This is irresponsible. Every day more deaths are reported and there were 39 more yesterday, “ he told The Borneo Post.
