Five S’wak schools chosen as national hockey devt centres

KUCHING (May 16): Hockey Association of Sarawak (HAS) have identified five schools as centres for the Malaysia Hockey Confederation (MHC) National Hockey Development Programme.

HAS secretary Kangot Awan said the five centres are SMK Paku in Bau, SMK Penrissen, SMK Demak Baru and SK Matu Baru in Kuching, SK SEDC in Sibu.

“We were asked by MHC at the end of last year to identify the centres and with the approval from the State Education Department, we submitted the names of the schools and the National Hockey Development Programme was launched in January this year.

“SMK Paku will be the centre for the boys and girls at state level while at district level, the schools are SMK Penrissen and SMK Demak Baru,” he said.

As for the Boys U12, the schools are SK Matu Baru and SK SEDC.

Dangerouslee Matthew

“Dangerouslee Matthew has been appointed by MHC as Sarawak chief coach for the national development programme at state level.

“He was the coach identified by us for the National programme and l am very confident that he will able to shoulder this responsibility well because he is not only a former state and national player but a qualified coach as well,” added Kangot.
