MIRI (June 6): The Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC) has reminded those who wish to channel any form of assistance to the areas that have been placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) to seek permission from the relevant agencies before doing so.

In a press statement today (June 6), MDDMC said the committee was informed of an attempt by individuals who tried to send food assistance to the residents in an EMCO area.

“The incident has been confirmed by the Marudi district police chief, and it is currently under investigation,” said the statement.

MDMMC stressed that any individual/organisation are required to contact and seek permission from their respective division or district’s disaster management committee or through Miri Welfare Department to arrange for any food or grocery donation to the affected area.

“The act of entering any areas under EMCO, is against the Prevention and Control of infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342), which stated that no one is allowed move from one place to another within the infectious diseases area except for official duty.

“Individuals who are allowed to enter the locality under the EMCO are only restricted to medical officers, health officers or enforcement officers who are on duty,” it said.

MDMMC said those who violated the Act 342 is considered as committing a criminal offence and action will be taken against them.
