KOTA KINABALU: Police have completed investigations into a sexual assault case involving a state-level Unduk Ngadau contestant after questioning 12 people.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali on Tuesday said police would be submitting the investigation papers to the attorney general’s office on Wednesday for further instructions.

A politician is under police remand until today after the beauty contestant reported to police that he had allegedly molested her in his car and office after a photo shoot at a bridal studio in Asia City.

A Rela security officer for the pageant also made an abuse report against the suspect.

Among the 12 people questioned by the police were the other Unduk Ngadau contestants and an Australian national who worked for the politician as a videographer for the state Unduk Ngadau pageant.

The Australian had previously made a 40-minute Facebook Live stream under his social media alias Orang Putih Kita detailing his experience working with the politician and urging other victims to come forward to help in investigation into the case which drew great public attention and criticism.

The politician was being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to outrage modesty. If guilty, he faces a maximum jail term of 10 years or fine or whipping.
