KUCHING (June 8): Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing has called for the immediate vaccination of Hornbill Skyway pilots against Covid-19, saying he regards them as frontliners too.

In a statement yesterday, he expressed his concern when he learnt that pilots have not been vaccinated.

“I’m quite surprised that Hornbill (Skyways) pilots, who are piloting the ministers all over the place, haven’t been vaccinated.

“They are among the frontliners,” he said.

Masing, who is also Infrastructure and Ports Development Minister, said the Sarawak government should take vaccination of the pilots more seriously.

“If they (pilots) are quarantined because of Covid-19 positive, then Hornbill (Skyways) will be rendered immobilised,” he said.

Masing had recently sent an urgent appeal to the federal government to speed up Covid-19 vaccination in Sarawak after losing his brother and sister in-law to the virus last month.

He had said the only way to save Sarawak from Covid-19 was through the vaccine.

“The faster this government can roll out the vaccine, the better! The rolling out of vaccine should be our number one priority!” he was quoted as saying.
