KOTA KINABALU: The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government is urged to think outside the box and help the people of Sepanggar who are without clean water supply.

Sepanggar member of parliament Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman said that it is incredibly sad because the people of Sepanggar have been without clean water for over a month.

He said that one of the constituents in Sepanggar said this has been the worst experience for him over the last five years in his residential area.

Azis said that as the parliament member, he has dispatched water to several residential parks and villages.

“I have told them that what I was sending was not enough because the reality is that this is the task of the government. I am using my monthly allowance to purchase the water. The reality is that there is water supply but the government has not made the effort to supply the water to the villages and residential parks,” he said.

He said that although the government had dispatched one to two water trucks, it was not enough.

“Some of the villagers have resorted to using used water bottles to keep the water as they do not have water tanks at home,” he said.

He reminded that during the Warisan government, water trucks were used to supply water to the affected places.

He urged the GRS government to ask the Water Department to set up several teams of water trucks to supply water to the affected residential areas until the department finds a resolution to the problem of low water pressure and excessive demand for water supply.

“Do the people have to wait until the water plant at Talibong 2 is completed by 2023?” he asked.
