KAPIT (June 10): Kapit Division will receive 16,680 doses of vaccines every week, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

In a press conference here today, he said that the Kapit District will receive 8,160 doses of vaccines weekly, Song District 3,680 doses, and Asap, Belaga 4,840 doses every week for their vaccination programme till the end of August.

“Meaning, we can ensure that there will be enough vaccines and we can achieve over 16,000 to 17,000 vaccination every week for Kapit Division and we will achieve our target to have everybody vaccinated by August,” he said.

Abang Johari said that mechanisms have already been in place to ensure that the vaccination process can be accelerated.

Among the mechanisms were to have mobile teams to be stationed at every vaccination centres and to allow walk-in vaccinations for the rural folks.

He said Kapit District has 16 mobile teams, Bukit Mabong 20 mobile teams, and two teams each in Song and Belaga.

“We have decided that apart from those who have registered for vaccination or registered under MySejahtera, we will allow walk-in vaccinations for those who have yet register.

“We will not turn them down for vaccination, and then we will help them with the registration for vaccination.

“This will accelerate our effort to vaccinate everyone in Kapit Division,” he said.

Abang Johari said that at the moment, only 8,662 people in Kapit Division have been vaccinated, which is only about 10 per cent of those who had registered for vaccination in the division.

He added that a total of 53,270 people registered for the vaccination were still waiting for their turn.

He also pointed out that the walk-in vaccination is applicable in the rural areas.

“We have set up vaccination centres at 32 schools, which means, for longhouses within the vicinity of those schools or vaccination centres, they can just walk-in for vaccination.

“It does not mean that anyone from Kapit can just walk-in to any vaccination centres, only at the designated vaccination centres at their areas,” he said.

Abang Johari said other mechanisms to speed up the vaccination process in Kapit Division include recruitment of volunteers to enhance manpower and working with the military.

He urged those who had been vaccinated to continue practice self-discipline and adhere to all standard operating procedure (SOP).
