KUCHING (June 11): Sarawak today recorded eight deaths from Covid-19 along with 699 new positive cases, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement.
The figures brought the total death toll in the state to 342, and the cumulative total of positive cases to 54,330 cases.
Out of the eight deaths, SDMC said that three of them were categorised as brought in dead cases.
The 335th death was a 72-year-old woman in Kanowit whose body was brought in to Kanowit Hospital. Her swab test was found positive on May 23. She had comorbidities of hypertension and dyslipidemia.
The 336th death was a man aged 55 in Subis whose body was brought in to Miri Hospital. His swab test was found positive on May 31. He had no known comorbidities.
The 337th death involved a 80-year-old woman in Tatau whose body was brought in to Miri Hospital. Her swab test was found positive on June 8. She had comorbidities of hypertension and diabetes.
The 338th death was another 80-year-old woman in Miri. Her test for Covid-19 was found positive on June 6. She had comorbidities of hypertension and dyslipidemia.
The 339th death was a 63-year-old man also in Miri. His swab test for Covid-19 was found positive on May 30. He had comorbidities of hypertension, diabetes and end-stage kidney disease.
The 340th death was also in Miri involving a 53-year-old man. His swab test for Covid-19 was found positive on May 28. He had comorbidities of hypertension, dyslipidemia and obesity.
The 341st death involved a man aged 75 in Sibu who was tested positive on May 24. His comorbidities were heart disease and chronic kidney disease.
The 342nd death was a 68-year-old woman in Sibu who tested positive on June 7. Her comorbidities were hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes with diabetic kidney disease, heart disease and cancer.
As for new cases for the day, a total of 427 or 61.09 per cent of today’s cases were detected in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Tatau districts, with Kuching recording triple-digit cases of 205.
“Sibu was the second-highest with 79 cases, followed by Bintulu (72), Tatau (71), Song (41), Kapit (31), Bukit Mabong (31), Miri (27), Sri Aman (16), Samarahan (16), Asajaya (16), Lundu (11), Serian (11), Kanowit (9), Subis (8), Sarikei (7), Simunjan (7), Telang Usan (6), Marudi (5), Bau (4), Meradong (4), Belaga (3), Tebedu (3), Sebauh (3), Beluru (3), Selangau (3), Mukah (3), Dalat (2), Julau (1) and Lubok Antu (1),” it said.
Out of the 699 new cases reported, 92 showed signs and experienced symptoms of Covid-19 during the screening.
A total of 532 cases comprised individuals who were given quarantine orders at designated quarantine centres.
From the new cases, 441 cases are results of screening individuals who had contact with positive cases, and 20 are symptomatic.
Another 90 cases are individuals screened from currently active infection clusters with 16 of them having symptoms.
Meanwhile, 113 cases are from other screenings at healthcare centres with two symptomatic, while 54 cases are from screening symptomatic individuals at healthcare centres.
There is one imported case of a returnee from overseas (Denmark), who is asymptomatic.
SDMC said that there were 469 recoveries who were allowed to be discharged, bringing the total of recovery and discharged cases to 44,374 or 81.87 per cent of total cases.
SDMC said that a total of 9,498 cases are still being treated at hospitals and various PKRC throughout the state.
There are 699 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) reported today, bringing the cumulative total of PUIs to 66,961 to-date.
As for Person-Under-Surveillance (PUS), there were 305 individuals who have checked into designated quarantine centres for their compulsory quarantine today. This brings the total of current PUS to 4,997 individuals at 105 hotels and non-hotel quarantine centres state-wide.
To-date, those who have completed their quarantine period numbered at 114,266.
