First batch of Sinovac delivered to Miri, more expected weekly

MIRI (June 11): The plane carrying 21,920 doses of Sinovac vaccines touched down at the Miri Airport yesterday morning and more are expected to arrive weekly.

According to the minister-in-charge of Miri Disaster Management Committee (MDMC) Datuk Lee Kim Shin in a press statement yesterday, the vaccines arrived at 11.15am via MASKargo flight MH2574.

“The 21,920 supplies that arrived today is for Miri’s Covid-19 Immunisation Programme and more will be arriving on a weekly basis,” said Lee who is also the Minister of Transport.

He added that as soon as the vaccines arrived they were immediately unloaded onto a dolly cart by MASKargo staff and transported with police escorts by Syarikat Pharmaniaga Logistics Sdn Bhd to designated vaccine storage centre.

“Getting this Sinovac vaccine supplies is one of the way for us to speed up our vaccination process.

“We want to achieve herd immunity within the period stipulated by our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg recently,” he pointed out.

Accompanying Lee to witness the arrival of the vaccines were Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Sebastian Ting who is also Piasau assemblyman.

Also present were MDMC chairman and Miri Resident, Abdul Aziz Bin Mohd Yusuf; Miri Health Officer, Dr P Raviwharmman A/L Packierisamy; Miri Hospital Director, Dr Jack Wong and Miri Divisional Pharmacist, Eileen Yii Sze Shin.
