SIBU (June 11): A year of home-based learning may not be the most conducive study environment, but this did not stop Claudia Nalu Leo, 17, from scoring 7As in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2020.

The SMK Methodist student said when the results were released online yesterday, she could hardly believe that she had scored A in all seven subjects she took, namely Malay, English, Moral Studies, History, Mathematics, Science and Art.

“It was beyond expectation. Studying at home is a lot harder and difficult compared to studying at school, mainly due to the noise around my neighbourhood during Zoom classes,” she said.

She added that on many occasions, she forced herself to ignore and block out whatever noises from the surrounding area in order to concentrate on her studies.
“I’m glad to have overcome all those obstacles to achieve my dream results.”

SPM 2020 marked the first time in history that candidates in the country had to obtain their results online or via SMS.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 cohort only sat for SPM this year following two postponements.

The first session was held from Feb 22 to March 25 involving 401,105 candidates, followed by another session from April 6-23 involving 2,969 candidates.

For SPM 2021 candidates, they will sit for their oral and practical exams in February next year, followed by written exams in March.
