Covid-19: 7 deaths, 536 new cases in Sarawak today

KUCHING (June 18): Sarawak today recorded seven deaths from Covid-19 along with 536 new positive cases, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement.

The figures brought the total death toll in the state to 373, and the cumulative total of positive cases to 58,570 cases.

The 367th and 368th deaths involved men aged 81 and 82 respectively in Bintulu, both who were confirmed dead in Bintulu Hospital. The 81-year-old man was found positive on May 14 and had comorbidities of hypertension, diabetes, heart and liver diseases while the 82-year-old was found positive on June 2 and had comorbidities of hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and kidney disease.

The 369th death was a man aged 76 in Tatau who passed away in Bintulu Hospital. His swab test was found positive on May 10. He had comorbidities of hypertension and chronic kidney disease.

The 370th death involved a 70-year-old woman in Sibu. Her swab test was found positive on June 16. She had comorbidities of hypertension, dyslipidemia and diabetes.

The 371st death was also in Sibu involving a 77-year-old man. His test for Covid-19 was found positive on May 30. He had hypertension.

The 372nd death recorded was a 70-year-old man in Miri. His swab test was found positive on June 10. He had comorbidities of hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes and heart disease

The 373rd death was also in Sibu involving an 84-year-old woman. Her swab test for Covid-19 was found positive on June 3. She had diabetes, hypertension, gout, chronic kidney disease, heart and cancer.

As for new cases for the day, SDMC informed that a total of 297 or 55.41 per cent of today’s cases were detected in Sibu, Kuching, Kanowit, Bintulu and Bau.

“The new cases were recorded in Sibu (115), Kuching (60), Kanowit (52), Bintulu (40), Bau (30), Tebedu (28), Julau (24), Miri (21), Kapit (21), Sri Aman (17), Song (17), Sarikei (16), Pakan (14), Subis (13), Samarahan (10), Telang Usan (8), Serian (8), Beluru (7), Sebauh (5), Lubok Antu (5), Tatau (4), Selangau (4), Meradong (4), Mukah (4), Asajaya (3), Bukit Mabong (3), Tanjung Manis (2) and Dalat (1),” it said.

Out of the 536 new cases reported, 54 have showed signs and experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 infection during the screening.

A total of 462 cases comprised individuals who have been given quarantine orders at designated quarantine centres.

From the new cases, 421 cases are results of screening individuals who had contact with positive cases, and 15 are symptomatic.

Another 40 cases are individuals screened from currently active infection clusters with none having symptoms.

Meanwhile, 35 cases are from other screenings at healthcare centres with all asymptomatic, while 39 cases are from screening symptomatic individuals at healthcare centres.

There is one imported case of a returnee from other states in the country, who is asymptomatic.

SDMC said that there were 547 cases of recovery and discharge for the day, bringing the total recoveries to 48,132 or 82.18 per cent of total cases.

SDMC said that a total of 9,939 cases are still being treated at hospitals and various PKRC throughout the state.

There were 536 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) reported today, bringing the cumulative total of PUIs to 71,790 to-date.

As for Person-Under-Surveillance (PUS), there were 561 individuals who have checked into designated quarantine centres for their compulsory quarantine today. This brings the total of current PUS to 5,093 individuals at 104 hotels and non-hotel quarantine centres statewide.

To date, those who have completed their quarantine period numbered at 116,811.
