KUCHING (June 18): The state government has been asked to expedite mass vaccinations in workplaces for large industries and offices with several thousand workers.

Social activist Voon Shiak Ni said this would complement efforts to ensure better access to vaccination throughout Sarawak.

“This system will no doubt speed up the process of vaccination not only with fewer people moving around but will also help to curb workplace clusters,” she said in a statement today.

She pointed out Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah had said there has been a rise in workplace clusters nationwide, including Sarawak.

“Dr Noor Hisham said in his statement that although the government had implemented the Movement Control Order (MCO) but the trend of workplace clusters is still on the rise.

“It is a critical issue as the nation is working hard to achieve herd immunity in the shortest time possible. We all know that it is not easy to contain the infection at a workplace, especially big factories and industries with thousands of workers or employees,” she said.

Voon said the state government can also consider a walk-in system for all Sarawakians at designated private hospitals and clinics.

“The ‘walk-in’ system will enable one family member to drive their elderly, for example their parents and grandparents, to a hospital and get their jabs done in one morning — fast and convenient.

“We observed that we still have people who have not registered themselves due to technical reasons and some recipients missed the calls for their appointment . The ‘walk-in’ system will solve some problems of this nature,” she said.

She pointed out it is a difficult time for everyone and all need to come together to support the efforts of the government in the vaccination process.
