Covid-19: Four new clusters recorded in S’wak, three from Kuching

KUCHING (June 20): Four new Covid-19 clusters were registered in Sarawak today with three in Kuching and one in Miri, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

In its daily statement, the committee said the three new clusters in Kuching were called the Jalan Usaha Jaya Cluster, Kampung Taba Sait Cluster and Jalan Tabuan Tranquility Cluster while the one in Miri was dubbed the Lorong Perlis Empat Cluster.

“Jalan Usaha Jaya Cluster is a workplace cluster that involved a workers’ hostel of an electronics factory at Jalan Usaha Jaya here,” said the committee.

It said the clusters involved the factory workers who were infected through social movement and close contact, and a total of 170 individuals had already been screened for Covid-19.

“To date, we have detected 13 positive cases including the index case, 121 individuals tested negative and 36 are still pending laboratory results.”

The committee said all the positive patients had been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Covid-19 low-risk treatment and quarantine centre (PKRC) in Kuching.

For the Kampung Taba Sait Cluster, it is a community cluster involving villagers at Kampung Taba Sait, Bengoh Resettlement Scheme here.

“A total of 31 individuals have been screened and 10 tested positive, including the index case.”

The committee said 11 tested negative and the remaining 10 are pending laboratory results. All positive cases were admitted to SGH and PKRC in Kuching.

“All the positive cases from Kampung Taba Sait Cluster had been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital and the PKRC in Kuching for isolation and further treatment.”

As for the Jalan Tabuan Tranquility Cluster, the committee said it was a workplace cluster involving workers at a restaurant at Jalan Tabuan Tranquility.

“Forty-two have been swabbed and 13 tested positive, including the index case,” it said, adding the remaining 29 individuals tested negative.

The positive patients from the cluster were also admitted to SGH and the PKRC in Kuching.

The Lorong Perlis Empat Cluster in Miri involved a workers’ quarters of a company that had been placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at Lorong Perlis Empat, Kuala Baram.

SDMC said 769 samples had been collected from the cluster with 33, including the index, testing positive, 323 testing negative and 413 pending lab results.

All positive cases from the cluster were admitted to Miri Hospital and the PKRC in Miri.

Meanwhile, SDMC declared an end to four Covid-19 clusters after no new cases were recorded for the past 28 days.

They are the Jalan Stadium Negeri Cluster in Kuching, Taman Sourabaya Indah Cluster in Kuching, Jalan Jambatan Gantung Cluster in Kuching and Sungai Majau Cluster in Kanowit.

To date, there are currently 95 active Covid-19 clusters in the state with 16 reporting a total of 158 new cases today.

The clusters that reported new cases are Beladin Cluster in Pusa with three cases; Jalan Coastal Bintulu-Miri Cluster in Bintulu (10); Muara Tabuan Cluster in Kuching (1), Banting Cluster in Sri Aman (2); Pekan Tatau Baru Cluster in Tatau (6); Kampung Sebandi Hilir Cluster in Lundu (3); Dulang Cluster in Subis (1); Nanga Strass Cluster in Meradong (2); Nanga Sejugam Cluster in Julau (28); Gran Stumbin Cluster in Sri Aman (10); Jalan Bintulu-Tatau Cluster, Bintulu (8); Kampung Serikin Cluster in Bau (7); Sawai Niah Cluster, Subis (44); Iris Garden Cluster, Kuching (15); Tebakang Dayak Cluster, Serian (1) and Lorong Perlis Empat Cluster in Miri (17).
