Covid-19: S’wak records 7 deaths involving 4 from Sibu, 507 new cases

KUCHING (June 22): Sarawak today recorded seven deaths from Covid-19 along with 507 new positive cases, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement.

The figures brought the total death toll in the state to 389, and the cumulative total of positive cases to 60,989 cases.

Four of the deaths were recorded in Sibu, while one was recorded each in Meradong, Pakan, and Kuching.

The first death from Sibu involves a 67-year-old woman who tested positive on June 14. She had comorbidities of hypertension, diabetes, gout and stroke.

The next death from Sibu involves a man aged 86 who was confirmed positive for Covid-19 on May 30. He had comorbidities of hypertension, dyslipidemia, gout and chronic kidney disease.

The other two deaths from Sibu involved men aged 59 and 73 respectively. The former tested positive on June 20 and had comorbidities of hypertension, diabetes, heart disease and stroke while the latter was found positive on April 29 and had comorbidities of hypertension, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive lung disease, and stroke.

The death from Meradong was a woman aged 87 who passed away in Sarikei Hospital. She was found positive on June 10 and had hypertension.

The death in Kuching was a 71-year-old man who passed away at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). He was found positive on June 10 and had comorbidities of hypertension and diabetes.

As for new cases for the day, SDMC informed that a total of 313 or 61.73 per cent of today’s cases were detected in Kuching, Sibu, Kapit, Sebauh, and Song.

“The new cases were recorded in Kuching (91), Sibu (85), Kapit (65), Sebauh (42), Song (30), Subis (27), Bintulu (26), Mukah (15), Miri (15), Sri Aman (14), Samarahan (14), Telang Usan (13), Simunjan (12), Kanowit (11), Saratok (6), Tatau (6), Tanjung Manis (5), Bukit Mabong (5), Bau (5), Pakan (5), Lundu (3), Pusa (2), Sarikei (2), Betong (2), Matu (1), Serian (1), Meradong (1), Dalat (1), Selangau (1) and Lubok Antu (1),” it said.

Out of the 536 new cases reported, 51 showed signs and experienced symptoms of Covid-19 infection during the screening.

A total of 437 cases comprised individuals who have been given quarantine orders at designated quarantine centres.

From the new cases, 353 cases are results of screening individuals who had contact with positive cases, and 21 are symptomatic.

Another 84 cases are individuals screened from currently active infection clusters with nine having symptoms.

Meanwhile, 49 cases are from other screenings at healthcare centres with all asymptomatic, while 21 cases are from screening symptomatic individuals at healthcare centres.

SDMC said that there are 583 cases of recovery and discharge for the day.

“These cases were from 111 cases from Bintulu Hospital and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) under Bintulu Hospital; 108 cases from SGH and PKRC under SGH; 98 from Sarikei Hospital and PKRC under Sarikei Hospital; 76 from Miri Hospital and PKRC under Miri Hospital; 72 from Kapit Hospital and PKRC under Kapit Hospital; 48 from Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC Sri Aman; 32 from PKRC Mukah; 29 from Sibu Hospital and PKRC under Sibu Hospital; seven from PKRC Serian; and two from PKRC Betong.

“As of today, 50,145 or 82.22 per cent of total cases have recovered and discharged,” it said.

SDMC said that a total of 10,318 cases are still being treated at hospitals and various PKRC throughout the state.

There were 507 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) reported today with one awaiting laboratory result, bringing the cumulative total of PUIs to 74,213 to date.

As for Person-Under-Surveillance (PUS), there were 229 individuals who have checked into designated quarantine centres for their compulsory quarantine today. This brings the total of current PUS to 5,257 individuals at 104 hotels and non-hotel quarantine centres statewide.

To date, those who have completed their quarantine period numbered at 118,367.
