Sarawak Covid-19 red zones drop to 29 after Dalat reverts to orange – SDMC

Sarawak now has 29 red zones, four orange zones, six yellow zones and one green zone.

KUCHING (June 24): Dalat District has reverted to orange zone from red today after recording only 36 infections in the past two weeks.

“This reduced the state’s total Covid-19 red zones to 29,” said SDMC in its daily update today.

Saratok District meanwhile was unfortunate to be classified as orange zone from yellow after 35 infections were recorded there in the past two weeks.

All in all Sarawak has four orange zones and six yellow zones to date, SDMC added.

Only one green zone remained in Sarawak as of today, which is Daro.

The Ministry of Health categorises a district with no Covid-19 cases as a green zone, and over a two-week period, with one to 20 local transmission cases as yellow, 21 to 40 as orange and 41 and more as red.

Meanwhile, SDMC revealed that the police had issued 53 compounds to individuals who flouted the standard operating procedures (SOP) to stop the spread of the pandemic.

Kuching topped the list of offences with 32 cases followed by Bintulu (8), Sarikei (6), Saratok (3), Sibu (3) and Kota Samarahan (1).

Thirty-four of the compounds were issued to individuals who broke the curfew without a reason while not wearing a face mask (5), failure to scan MySejahtera (3), inter-district travel without a permit (3), assemblies exceeding two persons with no physical distancing (3), exiting the Enhanced Movement Control Order areas (3) and operating businesses without permission (2).

SDMC said this brought the number of compounds issued since March 18 last year to 8,203.

It added that a man and six Indonesian men had been picked up from the streets in Kuching for flouting the SOP.

According to SDMC, the local authorities have issued eight compounds to those who flouted the SOP.

Of these, two were issued by the Padawan Municipal Council followed by Bintulu Development Authority (2), Sibu Rural District Council (1), Sarikei District Council (1), Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (1) and Limbang District Council (1).

Three of these offences involved failure to update the attendance logbook or incomplete records, not wearing a face mask (2), operating without permission (1), selling of non-essential goods (1) and malfunctioning thermometer (1).

SDMC added that this brought the cumulative number of compounds issued by the various local authorities since Feb 1 this year to 1,159.
