KUCHING (June 24): The Spring shopping mall has set up a centre to carry out Covid-19 vaccinations for about 10,000 people who are mostly workers of malls and several industries.

Housing and Local Government Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said apart from The Spring, VivaCity Mall has also been approved by the government via the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) to set up a vaccination centre.

These centres are set to contribute their part in accelerating the national immunisation plan (NIP) in Sarawak, he said when met after conducting a site inspection at The Spring yesterday.

“In its efforts to strengthen the solidarity with the community and assure a safe and successful NIP, The Spring shopping mall will be one of the largest vaccination centres for workers of service and industrial sectors,” he said.

The programme at The Spring will start today and open from 8.30am till 4pm daily.
Dr Sim said as a start The Spring will vaccinate 400 people daily before progressing to 700 and 900 people daily.

“It starts small and will scale up fast in the effort to speed up the NIP in Sarawak,” he said.

The Spring will work closely with the appointed medical practitioners, KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital, in the programme for the benefit of its own employees and that of other companies.

Dr Sim also reminded employers not to charge their employees for taking part in the programme and there should be no queue jumping as there is sufficient supply of the vaccine for everybody.

Factories like Press Metal located in Samajaya Free Industrial Zone here is also holding similar programme for their workforce.

In a press statement, The Spring management said it has offered its venue, community service and resources to private companies such as Aeon Mall, Plaza Merdeka Mall, Boulevard Mall, Hock Seng Lee Berhad and Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry and more to assist the government in achieving herd immunity by the end of this August.
