KUCHING (June 25): A decision on whether the Movement Control Order (MCO) will be extended beyond June 28 would depend on the National Security Council (MKN) meeting, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Speaking at a news conference here today, he indicated that the authorities had yet to decide on the matter.

“Meeting first,” he said briefly when responding to a question at the Longi Industrial Covid-19 Vaccine Administration Centre (PPV) at the Samajaya High Tech Park here.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who was also present, pointed out the MKN meets on Mondays and Fridays.

The current MCO, which came into force on May 29 to stop the spread of Covid-19, is scheduled to end on June 28.

On June 19, SDMC advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said Sarawak may not extend the MCO if the number of Covid-19 cases dropped.

However, in the last couple of days, the state’s new daily Covid-19 cases have not gone below 500.
